What's in store for 2018

So it's February, and time for some of us to get their boats out of winter storage ready for the season ahead. As we move into our 22nd year of the Association, we thought it was worth taking stock and seeing what is planned for the season ahead.....

24 February sees the fleet return to Bowmoor Sailing Club for the Oxford Carriers Winter Championships. This is always a good event to blow off the cobwebs and see who has been training hard over the Winter. Excellent prizes assured from Force 4 Chandlery.

On 2/3 March the Association will be at the RYA Dinghy Show with the Committee helping with the Supernova on the Hartley Boats stand.

On 11 March we see the start of the Noble Marine travellers circuit at Girton Sailing Club. The series is always really popular, and last year we passed the 40 mark at an open meeting - a first for the class and one not many classes can claim. Shortly after on 24/25 March we have our first "double header" with Cotswold Sailing Club then Bartley Sailing Club - we are hoping for really big numbers for this new midlands double header.

We also use the Noble Marine sponsorship to provide 2 training events, which are free for Association members - 27 April (Hunts Sailing Club) and 31 August (Bowmoor sailing club).

If you haven't already seen it, we are giving away a free £700 sail as part of the travellers circuit - thanks Noble Marine. Further details are shown below, together with the full list of events:

As the season moves on, we move into our biggest event of the year - the National Championships at Plas Heli, Pwllheli. With 5 months to go we have already got 109 entries signed on (thanks to you all and Hartley Boats). We can't think of many classes who get this many boats signed up, particularly 5 months in advance.

[As an aside congratulations to the GP14 Class for their tremendous efforts in ~100 boats for their worlds 6 months before the event starts]

You can still sign up for the nationals, and there are still discounts available for some members. We are so pleased to see a significant increase in the number of female sailors and new members joining us for the nationals.

We also have a waiting list of people looking to borrow/charter boats so please let us know if you are willing to lend your boat out.

After a few more Noble Marine travellers events we then move to the last of the Championship events; the Inland Championships on 15 and 16 September. This year we are making a move to a new venue Blithfield Sailing Club to check out their new refurbished club house. Excellent food (and bar) expected for this popular event - expect 50+ turnout.

As a reminder the Association AGM will be held during the Inland Championships. This is a great opportunity for you to have your say about the direction of the Class (we hope you like what the Committee is doing!). We do need your help this year, and we have at least 2 committee vacancies to fill:

1 - Publicity officer (available now!)
2 - Technical officer (or Secretary)

There are then 3 more excellent travellers event before the season draws to a close.

Thanks for your support and we hope you have a great season.
See you at the Winters!
