Noble Marine Traveller Series 2021
First day of the Peak District Double is at Combs SC.
This club has the benefit of a big Supernova fleet and an idylic setting.
Getting there, through the Peak District, is also visually rewarding.
The club are excellent hosts and offer overnight camping for campervans and tents, so this is ideal for getting closer to Carsington, and a high quality practice for that event the next day.
Competitors must pre-book by emailing supernovaopen@combssailingclub.co.uk with the following info:
1. Helm Name.
2. Home Club.
3. Boat Number.
4. Fleet (Gold, Silver, Bronze)
5. Home Address.
6. Contact telephone number. (preferably a mobile no.)
7. Approximate intended time and date of arrival.
8. Camping type if required i.e tent or campervan.
Please note WCs only are available; participants are required to 'self cater' and change for the event in their own facilities.
Payment for the event will be taken on the day; please bring the right money (£15).

Supernova Open Report Combs SC
Saturday 5th June
At 09.00, a Supernova open event looked unlikely with a complete lack of wind and not even the slightest hint of crinkly water.
Fortunately for the 11 visitors, who’d travelled from afar and not-so-far, there was a marginal increase in the breeze and by 11.00 we were able to make a (slow) start.
Making the best use of what could only be described as a vaguely noticeable and unpredictable shift of air over the water, the first race eventually finished.
After a lunch break there was a marked improvement, increased wind allowing some competitive sailing rather than drifting.
The outcome of the three races was an overall win for Gavin Young from Cotswold SC, with Tony Critchley from Bolton as runner up. Serena Stewardson from Emberton Park was First Lady and leading in the Mk 1 boats was Combs’s Tom Burscough, who was also first of the Combs fleet. Well done Tom.
Thanks go also to Rick for his excellent turn as OOD, to Mark AOD and Matthew (PB) and to Jenny who arrived with splendid cake and lashings of outdoor tea for thirsty competitors.
Lovely bright warm weather, the splendid and much admired Combs scenery and friendly atmosphere gave everyone an enjoyable day.
I took special interest in overseeing the racing by selflessly taking up the Border Collie position at the rear of the fleet, ensuring that no boats were lost and everyone found their way home!!!!!!
One racing lesson to be learned was to understand then follow the shortened course rule. Despite very clear signals, the greater majority of the fleet slavishly sailed the full course. To be fair, the lead boat was a good distance ahead, but this was definitely a case of follow the boat in front rather than follow the boat at the front.
Thanks everyone involved for putting on a brilliant Combs welcome.
