Report

Round 2 of the Supernova Travellers Series 2015, sponsored by Noble Marine, was held at Haversham Sailing Club on Saturday 28th March.

Despite a somewhat intimidating forecast 27 competitors from across the country turned up to take on the elements. Race officer Russell Perry used the full extent of the lake to set a challenging and exciting course to show the Supernova at its best with 3 fantastic reaches (which all ended with a testing gybe)

Race 1 saw youth sailor Alex Collins show the rest of the fleet how it was done, by establishing a large lead over the first few laps. Slowly but surely however local sailor Richard Pakes, followed by Tim Hand began to make inroads into his lead such that there were only a few boat lengths in it at the end with Alex holding on to take the bullet from Richard and Tim. A notable retiree from race 1 was Gav Young whose mast was reshaped following a mistimed gybe.

Race 2 followed after lunch and this time Gav Young despite his banana mast fought it out with the ever consistent Pakes and Hand for the leading positions. The lead was swopped a number of times but it finished with Young first followed by Pakes and Hand. Race 3 followed back to back and by now the field was somewhat depleted with less than half the fleet taking part. This time saw National Champion Cliff Milliner take the lead in a closely fought race with Pakes, Young and the ever present Steve Hawley in his new boat show a good turn of speed. At the end of the race it was Milliner from Pakes and Young that held the podium positions.

The event was won by Gav Young from Richard Pakes on count back with only 2 points difference between the top 5 sailors.
