There are many wonderful coastal places to visit nearby.
So this is a really good event to practice your sea sailing AND visit in some of the most beautiful English coastal towns.
Excellent local competition too :-)

Creaftinsure Supernova Traveller Series Open at Exe Sailing Club – Sat May 21st 2022.

Though the turnout was relatively small for the open event the competitors were treated to bacon baps and hot drink in the accompany of the Exe Sailing Club cruiser sailors who were setting off from the same start line for the 2022 Ore stone Race which starts just off the Exe Estuary clear water mark finishing off the Ore stone in Torbay.
The Supernova sailors sailed out to the start line via Dawlish Warren channel and were greeted with 10-12 kts of wind in beautiful sunshine.
Mike Way the Race officer who had already started the cruisers quickly set the course and the first warning signal was raised on time and 5 minutes later there was a clean start with James Gerwat (Shoreham SC) getting clear of the fleet and was first to the windward mark. On the first downwind leg James was overhauled by Iain Horlock (Exe SC) who went on to win the first race followed by James with 3rd place going to Martin Burgess (Bough Beach).
The second race followed a similar pattern with James and Iain getting clear of the pack with Iain getting to the windward mark first. James chased Iain for the remainder of the race and again they finished one and two with third place going to Matin Roots (Cardiff YC)
The final race saw a few boats crossing the line before the starting flag was dropped and had to sail back to go through the line again. Although Iain Horlock reached the windward mark first those who choose the port side of the course were in very close pursuit. Iain led the way finishing first with Martin Roots who was improving every race taking 2nd and Nick Clarence from the near-by Starcross club finishing 3rd.
The fleet who sailed back to the club through the channel marks were able to get up close to the rowers taking part in the Rowing Regatta who were fighting wind over tide in very choppy waters.
