Supernova Class Training at Chelmarsh Sailing Club 2022

On Friday 22nd of April The Supernova Class Association Training day took place at Chelmarsh Sailing Club in a joined up event with a Travellers Series race event the next day. The Supernova Class Association employed the services of Race Coach Andy Kerr to host the days training free of charge to it’s members.

A blustery day met the attendees as they rolled up at Chelmarsh and unpacked their boats. A hearty breakfast was supplied by the galley at Chelmarsh and a briefing of the day held in the training facility at the club. Rigging, upwind speed, gybing in strong conditions were the order of the morning session followed by feedback at lunch time with the use of video.

In the afternoon line starts were to be practised and a discussion on gate starts was had during the lunch break. Class strong wind Titans Matt Thursfield and Jonny Everitt ventured out in the afternoon sun along with a few brave souls as the gusts increased to 30mph. As participants slowly took an early bath one by one as the wind increased Thursfield and Everitt went head to head sizing up the opposition for the following days Travellers event giving a sublime demonstration of strong wind gybing.

After the debrief a fish and chip supper was held at the club and a live band performed for those that stayed. An early night was had after a few drinks at the bar in anticipation of the Travellers event the next day.

Thank you to Smartwater, a partner of Chelmarsh sailing club, a crime fighting high tech solution to combat theft who supported the Supernova Class Training day and provided marine packs as spot prizes.

A special thanks to Andy Kerr for a great day.
