Nationals 2020

The National Championships is the big Class Association event of 2020 and its hosted by Plas Heli (Pwllheli), 3 to 5 July.  Enter by 1 March 2020 in order to receive the best entry package!!

We are fortunate to be supported by Hartley Boats who are donating some early bird vouchers, and potentially 2 sails and 2 covers.  The Association is once again supporting the event with some vouchers for the Inland Championships (Burton Sailing Club, 5 and 6 September 2020).  See “info and links” for more details.

Fortunately we have been able to maintain the basic entry fee at £95 (the same as the last two years) and this is excellent value - those of you who have entered nationals in other classes will appreciate what a fantastic price this.  This fee includes a t-shirt and 2 evening meals too!

There will also be social tickets available (£35) for other halves, again we hope this encourages a bigger and more inclusive event.

Paul Scofield, Bronze fleet winner 2019 say “I was nervous about entering the 2019 Supernova Nationals, but I followed the encouragement of a fellow Supernova sailor at my club (Hunts SC) and arrived in Paignton on a sunny June day. From start to finish there was a friendly welcome and support from the Supernova family of fellow competitors. The local Paignton sailing club were clearly in control, with a strong reassuring focus on sailor safety. This was most evident when cancelling the first planned day of sailing due to the high waves and strong winds. It was a steep learning curve having never raced my boat in waves, but enjoyable and challenging nonetheless.  I can’t wait to do it all again in North Wales in 2020 - hope to see you there!”

For those of you that don’t know Plas Heli, it is the Welsh National sailing centre.  They have hosted many National Championships including the 29er’s, Albacores and Kestrals, so are well setup in what is regarded as one of the best sailing venues in the UK. It is also a fantastic part of the world for some epic walks, which may appeal to some 'other halves'.  They did us proud in 2018 with a great event for 100+ boats.

In addition to what will no doubt be some amazing sailing, this year there will be two social events to ensure everyone has a good time.  The Nationals isn’t just about the top few sailors, we want everyone to have a great time and really enjoy the social side of things.  We hope this encourages some new faces to attend, regardless of their sailing ability.

The buddy system is well established, but expect some further improvements, so even if you haven’t attended before you will be supported by some more experienced helms.

Plas Heli is a fantastic place to sail with safe launching/recovery from a sand beach, so why don't you come along and give it a go?

Entries close on 31 May 2020 - you CANNOT enter on the day.

If you:

  • Have any questions
  • Have any dietary requirements
  • Are interested in booking some social tickets

Then email

We look forward to seeing you there and please spread the word around your club members to see if we can get to the magic 100 mark again.

Please note that if you enter and are no longer able to attend then the Association will allow you to swap your entry with someone (which you will need to find), but we need to be informed of this. Also from 1 June 2020 it is too late for us to amend entries, so we cannot allow swaps then.  Swaps after 1 March 2020 will void all early bird benefits.

We are not offering any refunds, sorry.

We appreciate this is a "hard line" but we have had to take this following some issues arising as part of a previous entry.
