Sea Champs 2019

Postby Trajan » Wed Oct 31, 2018 1:38 am

Hi All,
I have been searching for an East coast venue for a Nats rotation and Brightlingsea came up as an option. Due to misgivings and Exe not being available for a Sea Champs till 2020 we came up with the idea of running a Sea Champs at Brightlingsea in 2019 to try them out. A date was pencilled in for late April / early May, but sadly this all fell through at their committee stage.

So i found another East coast venue able to host us for a Sea Champs in 2019 on 4-5th May. The club is Snettisham Beach SC but there are some potential issues i wanted to sound you out over.

First it would be a shared event with the RS700 class.
Second, due to tides the Saturday first start is 17:35 and the Sunday first start is 07:00.
They propose a Saturday evening meal and a Sunday lunch.
They offer free limited camping and campervan pitches.

So we would be arriving in leisurely order on Saturday, and setting off for home early on Sunday, but pretty intensively full on between then.
So, let me have your thoughts please, there might be around 20 RS700s so we need at least 30 Supers to make it worthwhile.

Thanks

Hi Tony. That's not too far away for us Northerners. About 4hours, Pwllheli is 3hrs 30mins.

Personally the evening sailing is fine but not too keen on a 7am start as it would likely mean getting out of my bed at 5.30am!!! Part of the event for me is the social side and that would put a damper on things.

I would rather not be with another fleet but if needs be I would accept that.

We could also suffer from lack of wind as it can die off in the evening and not fill in until late morning.

As ever though, really appreciate your efforts in trying to find an East coast venue though I'm not sure we need one

Or Saundersfoot? Great place to launch from and from what I have been told they are back to where they need to be in terms of event management.

Tony, have you decided on a venue for the Sea Championships next year yet. Also, will next years program be published soon as I want to book a few things and want to avoid clashes where possible?
Thanks, John

All excellent points, and agreed (other than that The Wash is a 7 1/2 + hr tow from Cornwall, so a complete no-go.

Incidentally - this is the first time in perhaps years that I've been able to get on a PC and access this forum; could read, but not post. However, temporary PC use only!
Maybe my past problems have been because of Android/Chrome? Anyone else had similar difficulties?
Perhaps that could be one reason why this forum seems to be rather quiet of late, given the domination of smart phones nowadays?

After an totally-abandoned 2018 season (long story...but hopefully pretty much all fixed now) my new boat 1228 (Polaris 5) has yet to be wet; still wrapped up, and in the barn!
Hoping for better in 2019, and looking forward to the events calendar going up; soon?

Hi Simon
I only ever access the site/forum from my android smart phone and although I don't post a lot I never have any problems.
The wash is much closer to Derbyshire withe bonus of not needing to use the M42 and M5 so I might give it a go. I've never sailed at 7 am!

Sorry, no Snettisham Beach for me. Have done a bit of work around that way, and the drive is a pita, even when not towing.
I do understand that it's handy (relatively!) For many folk.

The rather unusual timings will be different fun. Don't forget your tide table! How long does the water "stand" over a high tide up there?

Here's hoping for Exe in 2020!

Hi, any chance you could forward the email address to me as have also just tried the commodore one and it's not working.

I'm hoping for a campervan space for tomorrow night.

Thanks
Andy
