Trying the clew for the new sail

I'm sure I'm missing the obvious but how do you tie on the clew for the new sail? I've checked with Hartleys it's the right length but it slips out. Currently using velcro which doesn't get the tension correct always. Picture would be brilliant if anyone has one. Thanks.
