14 Supernovas turned up at Hunstanton SC for part 2 of a Norfolk double header weekend. The midday pre-race BBQ was most welcome for those wishing to line their stomachs after having over sampled the superb hospitality of Ouse Amateur Sailing Club the night before.

Race 1 got underway in a gentle F2 over a large triangular course with the wind blowing straight over the tide. A good number of the pond sailors found themselves bamboozled by tide and Ian Casewell popped up as the leader around the 1st mark by some margin. However, Mike Gibson and Richard Pakes gradually reeled him in to finish 1st and 2nd respectively with Casewell 3rd.

Race 2 got underway in slightly more wind allowing the toe-straps to get some use. This time the tidal lessons had been learnt and most of the fleet dived to the shore out of the tide. Gibson, Pakes and Barry Winter were 1st to the windward mark and opened up a large gap on the rest of the fleet. The rain came and went bringing a huge shift on the 2nd lap which meant the 1st reach nearly became a beat and the 2nd off-wind leg became a run as the wind began to fade and led to a tactical gybing battle between the leading two. Gibson just about held off Pakes to win the race and the event.

Race 3 started in a dying breeze which at times threatened to disappear. The shift that came in race 2 had persisted meaning that the 1st mark was now across the tide – a long way out – so no shore sniggling! Winter and Jeff Tucker went one way, Gibson the other and Pakes up the middle hedging his bets. As it was the 1-2-3 at the 1st mark was a repeat of the 2nd race – but this time the fleet was much closer and Tucker showed his normal good boat speed on light wind reaches to overhaul Winter by the gybe mark. In this 1 lap race in dying wind Gibson once again held off Pakes with Tucker 3rd and Winter just about holding off Caswell to take 4th.
