Twenty two Supernova sailors turned up to Haversham Sailing Club near Milton Keynes for the first of two training events this year organised by the Supernova class association for its members.
Richard Pakes ably assisted by Mike Gibson ran the training. The day started off with a thorough going over of Richard's boat (666) and the way we sail the boat has evolved especially with respect to the use of adjustable mast rake and kicker.
Then it was out onto the water for some on the water coaching around a triangular course and to get some footage on video camera.
The video played and some points of interest were picked out over a smashing lunch and then it was back out onto the water for some short course windward leeward racing. By now the wind had picked up and there were some meaty gusts making for swimming for some but some good sailing for all. The day finished of with some on the whistle gybing down the lake followed by a de-brief and a look at the video footage from the afternoons sailing with some discussion on the rules that apply in the starting area!
Once again a very successful training day for the class and at £5 for the day including lunch and half price entry to the Supernova open at Haversham in October this had to be the bargain of the year!
The next training day is scheduled for the Friday 29th August before the Inland Champs at Rutland SC.
We have a good number of pictures from the training day of the set-up and rigging on Richards boat. These will be put up on the website soon with some explanatory text.
