The home fleet of thirteen contributed to competitive and superb sailing at Wimbleball’s seventh Supernova Open on the 23rd-24th of June.
Day one started with fluky light airs. After tactical sailing Geoff Curtis pulled away leaving Simon Jones in second and Paul Harwood third.
After a superb lunch the sailors were met by force four winds. These condition suited Peter Jones and Dave Stockton who pulled away from the fleet in the last two races. P. Jones took the second race at the finish line after tactically breaking cover from Stockton.
Although he capsized, Stockton took the third race of the day with P. Jones second, Chris Bower third and Tony Paine an honourable fourth.
Light airs created testing conditions for the second day of racing. The first race saw S. Jones holding off Robin Bainbridge and Curtis, with Stockton moving from fifth to second on the last beat.
Stockton took first in the fifth race leaving a battle for second place, with Curtis achieving this with P. Jones third and S. Jones forth.
P. Jones managed to hold a huge lead in the last with Mostyn Thomas third and S. Jones securing a family first and second.
