Winds which battered Cowes week lasted for the Supernova meeting at West Oxfordshire on August 12 th.
The first two course had five gybes on each lap. Jeff Tucker led for most of the race when Jeff Mountain capsized after the first mark. Neil Boneham capsized letting Mark Giles into third. Paul Ernshaw improved from third to first on the last lap ahead of Tucker followed by Mountain, Giles, Boneham and Alan Birch.
Race two, Mountain again led only to drop back while Tucker took the lead. David Everett who retired in race one, produced exceptional up wind speed to win narrowly from Tucker, Boneham, Mountain, Birch and Chris Watts. 35 mph gusts left trails of capsized boats with others untouched and no less than nine boats failed to complete the course.
Race three and only three gybes per lap. Tucker shot into the lead with Ernshaw close behind. On lap three Ernshaw took the lead never to lose it though the finish was close. Boneham after a brief spell in second was third, Giles got passed Watts and Paul Undrell only to be passed by both again on the last lap of a race with only eleven completing the full course.
