Shifty patchy wind greeted the disappointing turnout of only nine Supernovas at Leigh & Lowton sailing club. The conditions were testing for both those sailing and the race committee.
In race 1 Steve Hawley was first round the windward mark closely followed by Chris Bower. Neil Boneham, Mike Gibson and Tony Critchley reeled in and passed the early leaders taking line honours in that order. S Hawley finished fourth.
Race 2 saw port end flyers for Chris Hawley and Gibson, gaining a good lead at the windward mark. Gibson held to the lead to the finish. Boneham sliced his way through the fleet to finish second. C Hawley lost third on the final reach to his brother. Dave Everett also sneaked through to fourth right on the line.
With Boneham and Gibson both having a 1 & 2, the final race would decide the overall winner. A huge wind shift half way up the first beat meant that Grant Brown had a lead at the first mark of over 50 metres. Boneham took a chance approaching the first mark on port, needless to say this resulted in penalty turns. Gibson caught Brown and held on to take the win. C Hawley made it to second, Boneham recovered to third.
