Twenty Supernovas turned out for the Bartley Open on Sunday 29th, with no one apparently being embarrassed by the clocks going back. A good atmosphere and camaraderie was matched by excellent weather, too good, especially if you wanted to top up your suntan! Unfortunately the sunshine and blues skies had a detrimental effect on the wind. This was hard to believe and somewhat disappointing given that Saturday had seen winds consistently at force 4-5! Never-the-less the conditions tested light air skills, as well as patience, and made a good start, all the more important.
Race 1 saw very light winds and a clean start. It was interesting to see boats taking a number of different courses up both windward legs around a shorten Bartley course, as each helm interpreted the shifts. It was very easy to be caught out by the increasingly fluky conditions as the race progressed as a number testified at the end.
Mike Gibson took the honours, second going to Steve Hawley and third to Chris Hawley.
Race 2. By this time the light wind had become even lighter and more fickle, but there were points and pride at stake and a race to be won. This time Neil Boneham cross the line first, followed by Richard Pakes in second and Mike Johnson in third.
With the wind dying away almost completely the 3 rd race was regrettably abandoned.
