Saturday 19th saw 18 Supernova sailors make the trip to South Cerney S.C. in the Cotswold Water Park. Luckily the weather had warmed up, unfortunately that meant that the fog lingered until lunch time. The OOD postponed until after lunch, so after a plateful of Cottage Pie, we all set out for a 1.30 start. Three races were sailed back-to-back, in a gloriously sunny force 1-2 from the East.
The first race started in a very gentle breeze, with the lead swapping a number of times between Stephen Hawley, Jean Simmons, Mike Gibson and Norman Halstead. After some close racing, Gibson eventually came out on top, followed by Hawley, Halstead, Simmons and Boneham.
Very quickly the second race was underway, with similar steady wind conditions. A good lead was soon established by Mike Gibson, effectively tying up the event, however Neil Boneham had an excellent race to come 2nd. Stephen Hawley was 3rd with Jean Simmons and Simon Jones close behind in 4th and 5th. Within minutes of the last boat finishing, the race officer had the last race underway.
A new course was set, taking full advantage of the large lake. The beat was longer, and more changeable, which in general saw a change in fortunes. Mike Gibson, true to earlier form won the race, with Barry Buzzard getting a very commendable 2nd. Ken Saunders held onto 3rd place, followed closely by Jeff Mountain and Jean Simmons.
