...Supernova Open at Wimbleball S.C. Saturday 26th June 2004

A weather forecast of rain and gales failed to deter Supernovas to compete in the open meeting and travelers series at Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor.

Race 1 started in stormy conditions with local sailor Ken Heap holding the lead throughout the race. He was put under pressure in the final lap by Steve Hawley but Ken, in a borrowed boat maintained his lead inspite of a capsize. Geoff Richards finished 3 rd with Chris Hawley 4th.

Race 2 started in slightly lighter conditions although, still with exciting reaching and testing beats. Steve Hawley took the lead but was caught by Geoff Richards, by the final lap. Ken heap capsized allowing Chris Hawley to steel 3rd position with Simon Jones finishing 4th.

The wind increased for the start of the final race. Steve Hawley started well but was again caught by Geoff Richards. Ken Heap retired with a broken tiller extension. Geoff Richards finished 1st with Steve Hawley 2nd. Chris Hawley sailed a steady third and Geoff Curtis sailed a tactical final beat to finish fourth.
