...Supernova Open at Ripon S.C. Saturday 22nd May 2004

26 Supernovas travelled from as far afield as Grafham,Bristol and Cardiff to compete in the Supernova Open at Bolton SC.

The light shifty breeze was no problem for the National Champion, T.Wild who led the first race from the start, hotly pursued by T.Critchley. Further back, there was a lot of place changing, with A.Flitcroft pulling though into 3rd, N.Boneham 4th and M.Giles 5th.

In the second race, M.Lockyer's weight advantage and good start paid dividends, and he built up an impressive lead. But C.Hawley took the lead on the second lap, and by the last lap, for the 6 lead boats, the race was anybody's.At the last mark, T.Wild reaped the benefit of an advantageous wind shift to get an overlap, and went on to win, with C.Hawley 2nd, M.Lockyer 3rd, T.Critchley 4th, and A.Flitcroft 5th.

The breeze picked up for the last race, which was also hotly contested. After a good start, T.Wild showed the other boats the way, until he as overtaken by C.Hawley and T.Critchley before the windward mark. Critchley rounded first, and C.Hawley was caught on port, allowing T.Wild and A.Flitcroft past. Two marks later, T.Wild took the lead, and held it until the end. T.Critchley was 2nd, and A.Flitcroft 3rd, just managing to cover C.Hawley in 4th, followed by his brother S.Hawley.
