For the seventh year, the Supernovas visited Black Swan Sailing Club, twelve visitors joining three locals at the first open of the 2004 season. To find the wind on a grey day, Race Officer Paul Robson sent the fleet to all corners of the lake.
In a tricky start, Mark Giles got away first, but was passed before the first mark by Mike Gibson and David Everett. From a close bunch at the downwind mark, Andy Flitcroft pulled away up the second beat, which saw the fleet spread out. On the slow crawl to the line, Flitcroft led home Everett and Gibson.
After lunch, the second race also started in light winds: this time it was Gibson away. Nick Hoath split from the fleet to go high on the first beat, coming through to be first to the mark, holding on through the race for third behind Gibson and Flitcroft.
By the third race a steady two had filled in and the fleet looked the happiest it had all day. A much tighter start saw Adrian Stell and Steve Hawley in front at the mark, but Gibson pulled back for a close race with Hawley through the middle of the race, finally winning by several boat lengths, once again ahead of some close racing in the middle of the fleet.
