...National Championships Grafham Water SC 4th & 5th September

4th & 5th September (Saturday & Sunday) - Supernova National Championships - Grafham Water SC near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

Don't miss the National Championships, or the AGM!
The Nationals are open to: Owners or their relatives who are class members at 4/9/2004 (may join on the day), or other people who were Full/Family Members at 4/8/2004. Sailors (of Supernovas) not meeting these criteria. may participate, if they join the class association but their results will be excluded.

The AGM follows the sailing on Saturday evening.

Last year 58(!) sailors attended, really putting the class on the map and we would so like to break the 60 mark this year. Remember that we run a personal handicap trophy at the nationals too, and there's an extended set of prizes (best swimmer?), so there's opportunity for everyone. Please be there.

Grafham Water is one of the largest man made lakes in the country boasting 1600 acres of water. It is very scenic with a water bird sanctuary and concealed viewing huts available for the nature lover, as well as cycle hire for a potential 10 mile circumnavigation of the lake or walk it. (We have!) There's the Nene Valley steam railway fairly nearby with a Thomas the Tank engine lookalike for the kids, both big and small. Major shopping is available at Huntingdon (10 miles) and there is a vast shopping centre in Peterborough (30 miles).

A wide list of accommodation of all types is available from the club or Anne Giles, and extends to camping (free at the club - showers and loos available all night), B&B etc.. The nearest B&B is within short walking distance at the Grafham Water Centre - right on the lakeside.

There will be 6 races with 5 to count. Entry fee £20.00. Approximate timings: Briefing at 11:00 Saturday, with first race 12:00, second race and third races after lunch. Sunday races begin 10:30

Refreshments and bar are available throughout the weekend with a good view of the lake available from the top bar. An evening meal is available on Saturday, booked for 8pm, which we're doing together with the Lightning sailors. It will be a two course meal for about £7.50, ordered at sign on, and a vegetarian option is on offer. Come and have a party: the bar is open and we get the Club's plush upstairs virtually to ourselves. Chandlery is open all weekend, and there's lots of parking.

Route: Grafham Water SC is easy to find as there are brown tourist information signs on the surrounding roads to guide you. The village to aim for is Perry on the B661. The nearest large town is Huntingdon. From any direction, make your final approach on the A1 and turn west onto the B661 at Buckden (roundabout) There are brown tourist signs here. Follow the road past the reservoir wall (do not take signs for Grafham Village - the club is at Perry) and turn right down to the club immediately opposite the Wheatsheaf Pub at the village centre. The road splits just before the club entrance, keep left to go into the club, or you will wind up at Grafham Water Centre.
