Replacing Continuous Control Lines

Postby MattChelmarsh » Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:46 pm

We measured the lengths of the control lines today with the intention of replacing them with 5mm Excel Control. 4mm is slipping in the cleats and too hard to pick up on a cold winter’s day.

Based on the standard Hartley set up, with Outhaul using cleats by the mast, and the side deck cleats for Lowers, Rake, Cunningham and Kicker.

The Length of ropes measured were …

Kicker 7m 10cm
Outhaul 4m 75cm
Cunningham 5m 0cm
Rake 5m 90cm
Lowers 5m 20cm

(bearing in mind when buying, you’ll need to add on the splice distance, we are assuming 1m of splice, 50cm each end)
This video shows 40cm of splice each end, so 1m extra should be ample.

Matt

From the Chelmarsh training day on Friday, you said these lengths were a bit long, and I'm pretty sure you said to purchase these lengths without adding a 1m splicing length, correct?
