Developments in the Supernova Class - it's the Supernova MK2
On this page we'll aim to keep you up to date with the exciting changes that are happening with the Supernova dinghy.

Last Updated 13/03/2010

It's out!
Unless you have been on the moon you cannot fail to have noticed the stunning Supernova Mk2 that was unveiled at the dinghy show. There are plenty of pics here.

What a lovely behind! The heritage is clear

What do we know about it?
  • It looks great!
  • The "towers" for the mask rake cleats and mast ramp are now all moulded in
  • It is very stiff
  • The king post is gone and there are now bulkheads. Three (?)
  • They can be built to weight
  • Sail numbers start at 1000 for the Mk2. 1000 and 1001 were on show at Ally Pally
  • Keith from Nr Southampton has the blue 1000, Mark Hartley has the black 1001
  • There were 24 on order as of Sunday am, probably nearer 30 by now. New faces coming into the fleet

What about the new sail?
This was on show on the new boats. Production starts soon. So if you have one on order it won't be long.

That is a grey sail! - the prototype

Very different from the grey sail - the new sail

It's a much lighter cloth than the grey prototype and it felt lighter that the Hyde and Banks equivalents. Certainly more see-through. The prototype had three weaves in it whereas this appears to have two and a black weave in in a sort of mesh that gives it it's grey colour. Although apparently mylar if felt a bit more crinkly than the current cloth.
